Army Ordnance Print Ad 1941 McCord Radiator and Manufacturing Company, Detroit, Michigan was the first and primary contractor for M1 helmets made during WWII.

A Loop By Any Other Name....... An educated collector can determine who made an early M-1 helmet, McCord Radiator & Manufacturing Co. or Schlueter Manufacturing Co., by the variations in their chin strap loops.

Do M1 helmets have Bails, Bales or Loops?  Documentation that has survived from the Ordnance Department, manufacturing facilities and reports from Army Arsenals varied at times with nomenclature but the most common reference is "loops".
