M-1 Liner Suspension System “Snap-In Head Band IV”

Big Red here with a follow up question from "Ted Striker"...

    So, TAKE FIVE!

    Ted asks,

"Big Red, I hate to bother you again but I swear I remember seeing a snap-in head band with a full leather wrap in one of the helmet books but for the life of me I can’t remember where. Am I loosing my mind?"

Good to hear back from you Ted!

Nope, you haven’t lost your mind my friend.

Mark Reynosa’s book on the WWII M-1 helmet is full of little Easter eggs like this. If you are serious about collecting WWII M-1 helmets you should take a page from Hermione Granger and read this book!

    Now to your question Ted,

This version of the snap-in head band is reasonably rare. The use of the full leather wrap seemed to have been for ease of assembly in manufacture which not only unnecessarily used up leather but added ounces to a total helmet assembly which was already suffering from a weight problem.

    And Ted,

if your friends want to know how you gained your intel, tell em

    Big Red Says!

    FIVE'S OVER  -  MOVE OUT!
