McCord Radiator and Manufacturing Company, Detroit, Michigan was the first and primary contractor for M1 helmets made during WWII. McCord produced more than 20 million M1 helmets for the Ordnance Department from 1942 to 1945. McCord also produced M3 flak helmets, Mk2 Navy helmets as well as armor plating for the M4 flack helmet and flyer's protective armor vests.
But.....
Did you know that the first order placed for helmets from McCord was not just for the steel helmet body but was for complete helmets with full liner systems?
