This original adjustable neckband is designed for the pre-1964 Vietnam War-era M1 helmet liner. Dated 1967, it provides a secure and comfortable fit when installed in the liner’s suspension system.
How to Identify a Pre-1964 Liner:
To determine if you have a pre-1964 M1 helmet liner, check for the following:
-
Garter Studs – These small metal studs on the liner’s interior were used to attach leather chinstraps. If your liner has them, this is the correct neckband for your setup.
-
Webbing System – The suspension will resemble the WWII-style setup, featuring a shoelace adjustment cord in the center. However, unlike WWII liners, the webbing will be made from dark green cotton instead of the earlier khaki color.
Historical Note:
1967 was the final year this type of neckband was produced. The contract was large, ensuring enough stock to replace worn parts in this style of liner for years to come.
