FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you do this full time?

Yes. This is our full-time business and has been for over 20 years. We really do exist.

2. Where do you find this stuff?

Everywhere. We travel constantly and follow up on any good lead. Helmets and liners have been found in some pretty wild places over the years — everything from abandoned buildings and junkyards to semi-trailers parked on the side of highways.

Surplus stocks are getting harder to find, and we are fortunate to work within a trusted network that helps locate and share large finds. If you have a lead, feel free to reach out.

3. Do you have a physical store?

Yes and no. We operate out of a 1,200 sq. ft. working shop, not a retail storefront. One side is dedicated to restoration (and is soundproofed due to equipment noise), while the other side is used for staging, assembly, shelving, and shipping.

4. When will I get my helmet?

Our normal build time is 10–14 days from the date an order is placed. This does not include shipping time, which is dependent on the carrier. Please plan accordingly.

5. Are your helmets actually original WWII / Korean / Vietnam U.S. helmets and liners?

Yes. We are known for this. We do not use foreign-made shells or liners for our standard builds. On rare occasions, a budget foreign clone option may be offered, but it will always be clearly labeled.

6. Do your products look like the photos?

Yes. What you see is what you get. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Big Mac looked like the menu photo?

7. Do you artificially “age” helmets?

No. We don’t artificially damage or weather helmets. We spend too much time restoring them to then turn around and beat them up again.

A clean, restored helmet will naturally age over time through use, weather, sweat, and environmental exposure — and that aging is far more authentic than anything we could fake.

8. Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship internationally using USPS and UPS. We do not falsify customs documentation. Please see our international shipping terms for details.

9. Why don’t you answer the phone?

Most days I am working in a respirator with hearing and eye protection. Spam and robocalls have also taken over the shop line. Email is the best and fastest way to reach us.

10. Does your rivet setting tool work for DOT snaps?

No. The rivet setting tool is only for the semi-tubular rivets that we sell.

11. Do people still try to use it on DOT snaps?

Yes. All. The. Time.

12. How do you select your helmets?

We source the best stock we can locate. Helmets and liners do not grow on trees. We restore and offer only items that meet our standards.

We do not sell junk… unless you beg. (Kidding. Maybe.)

13. If an item is marked “sold out,” is it really sold out?

Yes — and usually temporarily. There is no secret stockroom. When original items are gone, they are truly gone. They do not make this stuff anymore.

14. What shipping services do you use?

USPS and UPS for domestic orders. USPS and UPS for international orders.

15. Can I check in constantly to see where my order is?

Please don’t. Restoration and builds take time. Smaller parts orders often ship quickly, but helmets require patience. We are very good at what we do — but we’re not Amazon.

16. Do you accept customer-sent restoration work?

Sometimes, and always on a case-by-case basis.

Do not send helmets without contacting us first and including a clear letter of instruction and contact information.
Yes, we do in fact have an “orphan helmet” shelf. Let’s keep it that way.
