Original WWII St. Clair M1 helmet liner. Overall a very nice example of a harder to find early WWII M1 helmet liner. The washers securing the web-cradle are solid, even with the heavy oxidation and rust. Webbing has good color with minimal wear and tear. Exterior paint has a dark shade olive drab with resin texture. Rivet heads are smooth finished. There is one small rim split at the 4 o'clock position. Splits are not uncommon on St. Clair's, while unfortunate, it does not affect form or function.
We found this liner at the very bottom of a large shipping container containing, of all things, Vietnam era parachutist helmet liners. This is true. This is why I love military surplus. You just never know what you're going to get!
This scarce liner would make a welcome addition to any beginner to intermediate collector.
