These postwar M1 helmet liners date back to the early 1960s and include the chinstrap garter stud, making them compatible to rebuild into any era liner that accepts a leather chinstrap. However, they’re far from mint and require significant work—expect issues like mushy rims, rivet blowouts, cracks, chips, punctures, and discoloration.
Are they garbage? No. But they’re definitely not for beginners. You’ll need solid restoration experience and plenty of patience to tackle these.
Why aren’t we restoring them ourselves?
We already are—just not these specific ones. This batch is beyond what we can handle quickly without driving up costs. However, for those not bound by production restraints, these rough liners can be a fun challenge to bring back to life at your own pace.
