M1 Helmet - WWII Schlueter 289A - With Liner - Original
WWII front seam swivel bail M1 helmet. Manufactured by Schlueter. Stamped 289A. Helmet has good paint and cork texture. Rust is coming through in areas, no field cracking, some light dents. Chinstraps are od3 with a steel buckle and endkeeper painted black. The J hook is gone and has been replaced with a T1 release. The short side of the strap has also been modified for length and taped. Rim is stainless steel. Helmet body is a high dome.
The liner is also from WWII. Made by International Molded Plastics. The webbing is intact showing light to moderate wear. Note the front -A- shaped washers is sheared in half. Neck and headband are not present. Leather chinstrap is intact and is well worn, features a brass buckle and triangles. Exterior paint has full coverage and faded from use. Liner's rim is crack free with light scuffing and frays. IMP liners are often soft and spongy, this one is not, it remains rigid with no soft spots. Also, the IMP logo is legible, usually they are not.
This helmet can be displayed as is or finished off with a head and neckband. I don't think a restoration is required making this a nice solid lid for the collection.
